Whew , Ms. Megan The Stallion is HERE. After all the trials and tribulations, Megan has released her first album. This is amazing to see, she’s had a hell of a time in the industry thus far. She’s endured losing a parent, problems with her label, and recent events involving Tory Lanez and her being shot in both feet earlier this year. While these negative experiences surrounded her, Meg prevailed (as Black women always do) getting a new and better deal, appearing in the Savage x Fenty holiday campaign, and not 1 but 2 number ones (W.A.P and Savage). It’s safe to say Meg is blessed and coming to claim all she deserves. Meg’s debut album “Good News” is the win she deserved. Let’s get into the review. The album opens with Biggie’s “Who Shot Ya” sample. Meg came in HOT. This track seemed to address the situation with Meg’s former friend and Tory Lanez. I enjoyed hearing her in her bag! The whole time I was rooting for her “speak your truth baby!!”. After that first track, the vibe of the album changed. It was like “I had to get that off my chest now lets have some fun” Next track also has a sample, Jazmine Sullivan’s “Holding You Down”. Fun fact: Sullivan sampled Mary J. Blige on that song. The amount of Black women power on one track is amazing. The middle of the album gets a little funky, now year me out. There’s a song with DaBaby, Lil Durk, and Sza. At present, I can do without these features. DaBaby always annoys me, Lil Durk’s overuse of the word “b**ch” was overwhelming, and I felt Sza needed to drop a bar or something. On the other hand, there were a lot of fun and sexy songs. “ Do It On The Tip” is a song I didn’t know I needed. City Girls x Meg is something I’d like to see more of. The rest of the album has clever lyrics, great lady advice and is heavy on Black women’s power to defend themselves, embrace their sexuality, and be assertiveThe verse “I still aint doing nothing I don't wanna do” in “Sugar Baby '' promotes autonomy in my opinion. Brace yourself for the opening lyrics to “Intercourse”, it’s Popcaan….Popcaan-ing My eyes popped out my head, but I should’ve expected the wildness. Other features included Big sean/2chainz and Young Thug which is probably my favorite aside from “Body”. Listen, “Body” is a hit simply because it was living in my mind rent free and I hadn't even heard the song yet. All day just “body-odyodyodyodyodyodyody. Not knowing any other lyrics and I got hooked on the lil dance. Hence, my attempt at the dance challenge on IG. Overall the album is great. It’s the perfect debut album with features that compliment her style and some experimental content. I look forward to her sophomore album. I would recommend it to you and your homegirls.
